It’s official! Mewtwo will be available as the next legendary to catch! But wait there’s a catch to that catch; exclusive raids are the only way to catch the famous and anxiously awaited legendary. Mewtwo has been the source to much speculation with the removal of the legendary’s data from the game only to have it added back right before the big Japanese PokemonGo event. One reddit user has claimed to have caught two Mewtwo’s at the event (not surprising as the events boast a 100% catch rate). But lets get back to this exclusive raid nonsense.
In a new wrinkle, Niantic announced that Mewtwo is only available in “exclusive” raids upon invitation!?!?! WTH?! Why change something that’s not broken and make it harder to catch? Exclusive raids are raids that are automatically invited raids *once* you’ve defeated a boss and completed a prior raid. Here’s direct from the source:
Exclusive Raid Battles are similar to existing Raid Battles, with a few notable differences. Exclusive raids will periodically appear at Gyms around the world; however, unlike existing raids, Trainers will be invited to join an Exclusive Raid Battle. To receive an invitation to participate in an Exclusive Raid Battle, Trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the Raid Boss, at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other Trainers before taking on the powerful Raid Boss.
Let’s recap, Mewtwo is coming. But you’ll only get it if you complete a prior raid beating a boss at a gym that an exclusive raid battle will take place. Currently the official PokemonGoExtremeFans account is 0-umpteen on legendary’s, while personal accounts have favored much better. Based on this and the usual catch rates it’s lining up to be a difficult catch. This sounds like a disaster in this writer’s opinion.
Good luck and show off you’re Mewtwo catches if you’re lucky enough to get one on our Facebook and Twitter using hastag #mewtwo
