CP changes for Pokémon not good for Gym play

Niantic has released news that’s a little troubling. There will be changes for some Pokémon’s CP, or Combat Points. The claim from the company is that this will balance Gym battling and training.

The examples listed for getting increased CP don’t really make sense for allowing for a “more balanced and competitive battling and training experience” at a gym.  Let’s be honest who uses Alakazams, Rhydons, or Gengars for Gyms?  Will a rebalance of CP really change Gym battles and training?

This and the continued speed/driving restrictions are making it harder to keep the faith in this game.  Let us know your thoughts and see below for the full details.

PokemonGo: 7th Nest Migration

004

Many reports are coming in that the 7th PokemonGo nest migration has begun.  Seems the folks over at TheSilphroad.com have figured this out to be about every 2-3 weeks and have called every one since they started!

122

Nest migrations are in-game changes were the existing Pokemon nest spawns change from say Squirtle’s to Psyducks as terrible as that would be.  This seems to be another way for Niantic to keep the game fresh and players happy.  Players may also see the addition of new nest not previously seen in their areas.  For their part Niantic seem to be very serious about listening to the community and adding items to the game based on demand as well as listening to the fan collective where it counts.

019

The reddit announcement thread has many people reporting some fairly decent nest changes (alot of Charmander references!)  As of this morning from my trusty desk of my real job the same Rattata’s and Pidgey’s are being seen unfortunately.  May the rest of you be lucky and finally get the Pokemon you’ve been looking for.  If you are so inclined also sign up for TheSilphRoad.com’s Atlas tracking and add your spawn information to help track existing nest and changes from these migrations.  The Atlas is found here.

More bonuses to celebrate bonuses?!

Niantic has shared even more great news about daily bonuses!!  Daily bonuses for first catch and first Pokestop collection are rolling out now. To celebrate this new feature Niantic promises more Pokémon in the wild and Pokestops will drop more items!  Maybe we will see a Ditto or rares?!  We shall see. Post your rare catches in the comments!

See the below for full details.

PokemonGo Stops Not Working? Issues or new safety features?

During the usual drive to work there are about 5 – 7 Poke Stops (Yes, yes, it’s light but that’s what living in the country is like) that have always consistency provided Poke balls, Poke eggs, and the usual goodies.  This is puttering through town doing no more than 30-35MPH in lazy small town traffic, not doing 60+ down a highway.

Over the last two days the same stops are spinning but giving a “Try again later” message.  EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.  Did Niantic introduce a change to limit the ability to drive and benefit from Poke Stops?  Safe driving and responsible Pokemon Go gaming should be common sense by now.  Don’t be reckless nor distracted but having to come to a full stop or drive well under 25 MPH seems like it could cause more issues.

During testing going as low as 25 MPH still produces the error so it looks like this may be the case.  Twitter is also chirping about users complaining of the same thing.

Why would Niantic do this?  After a quick google of “Pokemon Go deaths” there’s some recent stories that may be pressing on the conscious of the developers.  Not to mention heading off any legal liabilities Niantic could very well be doing this to limit any further personal or legal concerns.

  • Japanese government ask for more game restrictions after death
  • Japanese parents ask for more restrictions after son’s death bringing the Japanese death toll for Pokemon Go related deaths to 3.
  • Detroit Pokemon Go death

While these are largely stories about the concerns in Japan it’s only a matter of time before we see more and more pressures to hamstring the game and sadly restricting the PokeStops while driving is likely the first in many potential unwanted game changes.

Android and iOS updates inbound!!!

Updates for both Android and iOS are in the shute based on the official Niantic site.  Looks like the daily bonuses are included as well as some gym updates!

Full details of the upcoming update below:

“Trainers,

Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.45.0 for Android and 1.15.0 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.
You’ll earn bonuses for the first Pokémon catch and PokéStop visit each day. You’ll receive a larger bonus when you do this seven days in a row.
When you defeat the Gym Leader at a rival Gym, there will be a brief period of time where only you will be able to place a Pokémon in the open Gym.
The amount of Prestige a rival Gym loses when you defeat a regular Gym member has increased. The amount of Prestige gained by training at a friendly Gym has been lowered.

Nearby Feature Testing Expanding!

Looks like we have another update from Niantic!  They’ve been very active and promising (let’s hope delivering soon) quite a few things since the highly successful Halloween event.  This time we are being told that the testing for the “nearby feature” is being expanded to all of San Fransisco, and now parts of Arizon and Seattle area of Washington State.  While this is promising it would be great if they opened up an it more to 3rd party apps in the interim.

PokemonGo Nest Migration Number 6!

Pokemon_GO_Header_1st

Today’s news from PokemonGo is the completion of the 6th Pokemon “nest migration.”  As all players should know by now nests are spawns of the same Pokemon’s occurring at the same place.  For the last few months Niantic have pushed nest migrations to mix up the Pokemon, provide more variety, and keep players guessing.  With yesterday’s announcement of a forth coming update to add daily bonuses “very soon” it seems Niantic is keeping their foot on the gas to win back and keep players!

006

These “secret” nest migrations change the types of Pokemon that typically spawn at the nest.  The same “nest” that spawned Magikarp, for example, now spawns different Pokemon.  In our own testing we can confirm more Polliwags, Paras, Oddish, and Krabby’s than seen previously at our normal location, however no real “rares” of any merit to report.  The folks over at PokemonGohub indicate the nest migration occurred November 2nd, 2016.

060

This reddit thread provides additional details and encourages reports that confirm the nest migration as well as the new Pokemon types that are appearing in the nests.  It appears by the reports on that thread that this migration has added to “increased biodiversity” which simply means more variety to the nest spawns and often times increasing the chance to catch rare Pokemon.

To add your own reports on what’s spawning at your favorite Pokemon nests head over to  the Nest Atlas at The Silph Road .  You can sign up and add your own reports to help identify what new Pokemon are spawning at your local nests!
