PokemonGo – 135 Gen 3 Pokemon are coming!!

Generation 3 Pokemon are coming!!!  The Silph Road has found proof of upcoming Generation 3 Pokemon within the latest mining of the APK V0.71.0!  Recently Niantic rolled out V0.71.0 and found a wealth of goodies that bode well for Pokemon Trainers.   Silph Road researchers also found details on a new super incubator, bug fixes, shiny changes, exclusive raid updates, potential ditto changes, and more!

Gen 3 Pokemon – First, the good stuff, 135 new Gen 3 species were found!  Along with the names within the metadata of all 135 Pokemon, the corresponding candies were discovered.  Once sounds and additional moves are implemented within the code we’ll likely see the Gen 3 launch.  If we take Generation 2’s timeline into account we should generation 3 release in about a month!

Super Incubators! – Little is known but much has been speculated about a “super” incubator.  Obviously this *should* incubate eggs faster but no confirmation on it’s abilities nor whether this can be found or only be available by purchase.  Incubators as a whole appear to be reworked as well so will be interesting to see what that translates to in-game.

Shiny Changes – Code changes referring to shinies seem to be vague but could point to better identification of shiny Pokemon.

Exclusive Raids – Code changes appear to be readying the existing Raid system for exclusive Raids with potential Exclusive Raid emblems and decals.

Moveset search – Code changes imply the addition of a moveset search for your caught Pokemon!

This reflects some exciting upcoming changes to the game!  For full details surf over to link from TheSilphRoad here.

PokemonGo Valentine’s Event February 8th – 15th

Well after the long anticipated wait for another PokemonGo event, Niantic announced the Valentine’s Day event this morning.  While expected to some degree it feels like a let down.  Recycled structure of previous events in that more candy is provided for catches, hatches, and transfers; as well as Buddy Pokemon additional candies and a spotlight is put on specific Pokemon.  We’ll see more Chansey, Clefables and “other pink Pokemon”.  Cleffa, Igglybuff, and Smootchum will be likely to be hatched from eggs as well (UGH!!).  Festivities start 11am PST February 8 to 11am PST on February 15th, 2017.  I think we can all agree we need to start seeing some Gen 2 soon this game is going to lose even more players.

Starbucks and PokemonGo – 2nd major partnership announced

Niantic has confirmed much of the speculation and rumors generated by leaked Starbuck’s emails that it has indeed inked a deal to partner with the huge chain.  Starbucks will now be an official partner with Pokemon Go!

Much like the Sprint partnership this means that all 7,800 company operated Starbucks will have Pokestops and Gyms.  What makes this different from the Sprint deal is that fans of Pokemon Go can get a special-edition Pokemon Go Frappuccino.

So if you dig Fraps and Pokemon Go take a spin or walk over to your local company operated Starbucks and get a drink and some Pokestop goodies or battle it out for Gym ownership!

Ditto Official – PokemonGo’s new Rare addition

Niantic has officially confirmed the release of the rare Ditto Pokemon into the game via an update post and video.  In the video you see what would happens when you catch a normal Pokemon only to get the special music and see Ditto pop up!  As the social media account have shown Ditto has been being caught by Trainers across the globe, but the post shares some neat details on Ditto especially where Gyms are concerned.

Ditto can be used in Gyms to train or battle Ditto will copy both the appearance and attacks of the first Pokemon it encounters.  This has some intereresting ramifications for battle.  Lets say I start my battle with a Pidgey then beat Ditto with the weak attacks then switch to a stronger more powerful one?  Guess further training and battling will show what happens when Ditto is being used or battle/trained against.

More bonuses to celebrate bonuses?!

Niantic has shared even more great news about daily bonuses!!  Daily bonuses for first catch and first Pokestop collection are rolling out now. To celebrate this new feature Niantic promises more Pokémon in the wild and Pokestops will drop more items!  Maybe we will see a Ditto or rares?!  We shall see. Post your rare catches in the comments!

See the below for full details.

Nearby Feature Testing Expanding!

Looks like we have another update from Niantic!  They’ve been very active and promising (let’s hope delivering soon) quite a few things since the highly successful Halloween event.  This time we are being told that the testing for the “nearby feature” is being expanded to all of San Fransisco, and now parts of Arizon and Seattle area of Washington State.  While this is promising it would be great if they opened up an it more to 3rd party apps in the interim.

PokemonGo Nest Migration Number 6!

Pokemon_GO_Header_1st

Today’s news from PokemonGo is the completion of the 6th Pokemon “nest migration.”  As all players should know by now nests are spawns of the same Pokemon’s occurring at the same place.  For the last few months Niantic have pushed nest migrations to mix up the Pokemon, provide more variety, and keep players guessing.  With yesterday’s announcement of a forth coming update to add daily bonuses “very soon” it seems Niantic is keeping their foot on the gas to win back and keep players!

006

These “secret” nest migrations change the types of Pokemon that typically spawn at the nest.  The same “nest” that spawned Magikarp, for example, now spawns different Pokemon.  In our own testing we can confirm more Polliwags, Paras, Oddish, and Krabby’s than seen previously at our normal location, however no real “rares” of any merit to report.  The folks over at PokemonGohub indicate the nest migration occurred November 2nd, 2016.

This reddit thread provides additional details and encourages reports that confirm the nest migration as well as the new Pokemon types that are appearing in the nests.  It appears by the reports on that thread that this migration has added to “increased biodiversity” which simply means more variety to the nest spawns and often times increasing the chance to catch rare Pokemon.

To add your own reports on what’s spawning at your favorite Pokemon nests head over to  the Nest Atlas at The Silph Road .  You can sign up and add your own reports to help identify what new Pokemon are spawning at your local nests!

PokemonGo Daily Bonuses coming soon!

PokemonGo is due to receive another update called “Daily Bonus” giving players another reason to play the highly addictive game!  Fresh off the heels of the highly successful Halloween event that we wrote about earlier,  Niantic says an update that is “coming soon” will provide daily bonuses based on daily game play and visiting Pokestops!

It’s a very simple approach:  Catch a Pokemon or visit a Pokestop daily to get bonuses!!!!  Catch a Pokemon everyday you gets you 500XP and 600 Stardust.  Catch a Pokemon 7 days straight gets you 2000XP and 2,400 Stardust.  Hit a Pokestop daily and get 500XP and a “number of additional items.”  Visiting the same PokeStop 7 days in a row gets you 2000XP and a “greater number of additional items” (LOL).  The more consistent you are everyday the better the loot!  The bonuses period start at 12am local time.

What do you think too little too late or too much too soon?

Pokemon Go’s Halloween Event – Was it enough to bring back players?

pokemonhalloween

Niantic rolled out its first player centric event since game launch, the Halloween event.  For the event (which at the time of this writing this writer still sees Halloween benefits even though it was to end 11/1/16) players received an assortment of Halloween treats; from higher spawn counts for Halloween type Pokémon’s, double candy points, and much shorter distances for buddy candy.  But was it enough to bring the masses back to the game?

094

From the player perspective, it seems to have been very player centric and beneficial to players.  This writer has seen more than he cares to in terms of Meowths, Ghastly’s, Hypno’s, Drowzee’s, and Haunters for sure but this was a great opportunity to use these hyper spawned Pokemon’s to do a few things:

  1. Players have a chance to get some high evolution Pokemon’s they might not have prior to the event via evolving them or simply catching them
  2. You can churn them into candies and level up very easy (add an egg and you’re talking massive EXP’s to get more than one level)
  3. More EXP from simply catching all these Poke’s that spawn over the last few days.
  4. MORE CANDY!
    1. Let’s be honest there was tons of candy to be had via the reduced buddy candy. Walk distance was cut by ¾ths!!!  This is HUGE for getting candy for the other hard to level Pokemon’s.

This was an awesome opportunity to really make out well in terms of leveling your player and your favorite Pokemon’s!

Now for Niantic and the business.  Did they benefit and what’s the chances for more events?  Looking at the recent press on the matter that answer seems to be a resounding YES!  Forbes.com reports that Niantic saw a 133% jump in revenue, the app creep back to the top of the Highest Grossing app chart, and goes on to reference data saying the revenue jumped 133%.  Another source Geek.com echo’s the statements from Forbes with pretty graphs and putting a value of about $23 million to the Niantic coffers.  Pretty impressive!

052

It seems there’s a very good chance players of Pokemon Go will benefit from future events based on the fact Niantic catered heavily to the players with the Halloween benefits and the positives to the company and app.   Let’s hope we can see either a Thanksgiving or Christmas event coming out soon!!

Let us know your comments and thoughts on the event!
